Market in the Meadow
More fresh food with Tuesday option

For people who love good food, few pleasures beat a picnic under the apples trees at Ganges' weekly Market in the Meadow.
2010 marks the market's seventh year at its location in the United Church Meadow, accessed from Hereford or McPhillips avenues in the heart of the village. A project of Island Natural Growers, the farmers' market has approximately 25 vendors who bring their products into town each Tuesday.
Products sold at the market must be grown or processed in the southern Gulf Islands.
"The Market in the Meadow is strictly a farmers' market and our focus is on food and flowers or plants grown or processed in the southern Gulf Islands," says long-time participant and past coordinator, Cora Platz.
"We have a large selection of fresh, local vegetables, fruit and berries, as well as mushrooms and sprouts, gourmet baking, raw food treats, canning and other value-added products, gorgeous flower arrangements and ready-to-eat foods such as smokies."
Island Natural Growers asks shoppers to bring their own reusable bags or to save their plastic bags and reuse them. However, there is a bag stand where plastic bags can be purchased for 5 cents each.
The market operates Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 15 to October 5.
